Opening conference - The laboratory in motion: how can we improve efficiency, strengthen reliability, and advance sustainable practices?

Description
Tight budgets, regulatory requirements, automation and artificial intelligence, resource optimization, environmental and climate imperatives... Laboratories must reconcile growing challenges while supporting their teams and preparing for the transformations of the coming years. • How can they innovate while keeping costs under control? • How can they automate while retaining control over operations? • How can they strengthen the reliability of results and reduce their environmental footprint with a constant budget? • How can they develop and retain the necessary skills without increasing pressure on teams? • Though these demands may seem contradictory, they can become drivers of progress. Drawing on feedback from laboratories that have successfully carried out transformations, this opening conference explores the technological, organizational, and human choices that are proving effective. Artificial intelligence, precision or miniaturized instrumentation, new sustainable practices: what concrete benefits can they deliver, what conditions are needed for success, and what impact will they have on professions and roles? Looking at yesterday’s choices to shed light on today’s decisions: which strategic shifts have paid off, which practices can be adapted to other organizations, and which directions should be taken as early as 2027?

Inside the Joint Laboratory Service

Description
The Joint Laboratory Service stands out for its unique way of operating, making it a network of official laboratories at the heart of government action. It works for several government bodies on an extremely wide range of issues, from toys to narcotics, from verifying the accuracy of claims to food safety, as well as checking geographical origins and the naturalness of ingredients. Its scope of expertise covers 29 scientific fields and includes handling samples collected by inspection authorities, both for high-volume routine analyses (for example, pesticide residues in imported fruit and vegetables) and for in-depth expert investigations on specific topics (for example, the structural elucidation of new psychoactive substances using NMR and high-resolution mass spectrometry).

Hemarina – a human, scientific and entrepreneurial adventure

Description
Oxygen is essential to life, and hemoglobin is the molecule responsible for transporting almost all of the oxygen present in the circulatory system of most living species. During this conference, our speaker will retrace the story of the discovery of a natural extracellular hemoglobin called M101, derived from a marine organism, Arenicola marina, and its applications in medicine. This non-allergenic and non-immunogenic molecule carries 40 times more oxygen than HbA and is 250 times smaller than a red blood cell. Its intrinsic properties make it a broad-spectrum therapeutic tool for ensuring effective tissue oxygenation in various clinical situations where ischemia and/or anemia are the triggering factors. The applications of the M101 molecule are almost limitless, as it can potentially act wherever oxygen is needed: in composite tissue transplants (organs, skin, face, limbs, etc.), during vaso-occlusive crises in patients with sickle cell disease, in cases of myocardial infarction, cerebral ischemia, in oncology (radiotherapy, CAR-T cells for hypoxic tumors), in the development of oxygenating dressings for hypoxic wounds, and in the treatment of periodontal diseases. This presentation will provide an overview of the development of the M101 molecule and its various therapeutic applications.

Chemistry CSR Label: the benchmark sector label for responsible and competitive chemistry - France Chimie - AFNOR

Description
This roundtable on the Chemistry CSR Label brings together the label owner, the assessment body and a certified company. The Chemistry CSR Label is the benchmark sector label for companies in the chemical industry that want to structure, strengthen and promote their corporate social responsibility approach, while meeting the expectations of clients and investors. Developed by France Chimie in partnership with AFNOR Certification, it addresses the environmental, social, societal and governance issues specific to the sector. The label assessment is carried out on site by AFNOR Certification, an independent third-party body, which ensures that the essential criteria are met and evaluates the company’s CSR maturity. France Chimie then awards the label based on AFNOR Certification’s recommendation, with one of the label’s four maturity levels. TCN is one of the first companies to receive the Chemistry CSR Label. Long committed to CSR, this SME of 10 employees, specializing in the design, manufacture and marketing of polishing pastes and color preparations, relies on the label to strengthen recognition of its CSR approach.

New approaches to biopharmaceutical analysis - AFSEP

Description
Biopharmaceutical drugs are playing an increasingly important role in the pharmaceutical industry. This evolution is accompanied by a wide diversity of molecules, including monoclonal antibodies and their derivatives, oligonucleotides, messenger RNA, as well as cell and gene therapies. Their size, structure, and complexity make their analysis particularly challenging. Yet in-depth characterization is essential to verify their identity, purity, and integrity, detect variants and impurities, and better understand the links between their properties and their biological activity. This presentation will first cover the main families of biopharmaceuticals and the analytical challenges they raise. It will then show how different chromatographic approaches, with or without mass spectrometry, can contribute to their characterization. Examples will illustrate the complementarity of chromatographic modes, the development of rapid analyses, coupling with MS, and method automation. Finally, the biopharmaceuticals of tomorrow are expected to become even more complex, particularly with the rise of conjugated molecules combining several types of compounds. This evolution will require the continued development of adapted analytical strategies capable of providing ever more comprehensive and reliable information.

How can you monitor your equipment from a metrological perspective? – The case of centrifuges

Description
This conference offers a practical and structured approach to the metrological monitoring of centrifuges, from needs analysis through to the declaration of conformity. Our speaker will begin by identifying the metrological need: which parameter should be measured or monitored, and for what purpose? Temperature, time, speed? We will then look at how to define appropriate specifications, in particular the maximum permissible errors (MPE), and how to choose and implement a relevant calibration or verification method. The conference will also present the principles for declaring equipment compliant with the applicable requirements. Finally, we will broaden the discussion to cover monitoring the overall process and best practices for using centrifuges, in order to connect metrology with actual use.

Implement monitoring methods to optimize your processes – the example of weighing

Description
How can you implement effective process monitoring to better control your operations and prevent non-conformities? This conference will explore the various monitoring methods used in metrology, with a particular focus on internal and external approaches such as control charts and interlaboratory comparisons (ILCs). Using the concrete example of weighing and drawing on our speaker’s experience, we will look at how to rely on recognized methods or approaches tailored to specific needs. We will cover the key criteria to consider when defining maximum permissible errors (MPEs) and determining relevant control frequencies, depending on uses and associated risks. The objective is to provide practical guidance for building an appropriate monitoring strategy. We will conclude with an overview of best practices for using weighing instruments, which are essential to ensuring the quality of day-to-day results.
